Introduction and process flow of continuous casting and rolling
May 14, 2021

The full name of continuous casting and rolling is continuous casting and continuous rolling, which is to pour liquid steel into a continuous casting machine to cast a slab (called continuous casting slab), and then directly enter the hot continuous after keeping it in a soaking furnace without cooling. The steel rolling process of rolling in the rolling mill. This process cleverly combines the casting and rolling processes. Compared with the traditional process of casting the billet first and then heating it in the heating furnace, it has simplified the process, improved the working conditions, and increased the metal yield. It saves energy, improves the quality of continuous casting slab, and facilitates the realization of mechanization and automation.

The continuous casting and rolling process is currently only used in rolling plates and strips.

The mainstream continuous casting and rolling production lines in the world include CSP (Compact Strip Production) of German SMS company, FTSC (Flexible Thin Slab Casting) of Danieli of Italy, and CONROLL of voestalpine.

Process flow

1. Put the liquid steel heated to a molten state into the ladle, and lift it to the top of the continuous casting machine by the overhead crane (overhead crane);

2. Inject the liquid molten steel in the ladle into the continuous casting machine for continuous casting production, and the continuous casting billet is pulled out from below the continuous casting machine;

3. Use flying shears to cut the continuous casting slab to length, and the continuous casting slab cut to length is sent to the tunnel soaking furnace;

4. The continuous casting slab advances slowly in the tunnel soaking furnace to ensure that the temperature of the continuous casting slab is uniform and constant; (Note: the length of the tunnel soaking furnace is usually between 100-200 meters, and even longer to 250m)

5. After the continuous casting billet comes out from the other end of the tunnel soaking furnace, it enters the hot continuous rolling mill for rolling;

6. The rolled steel enters the water cooling section for laminar cooling;

7. The steel after laminar flow cooling enters the coiler for coiling;

8. The steel rolled into a reel is transported by a crane into the finished product warehouse for storage.

The continuous casting and rolling process can be used to produce electrician special aluminum rods and aluminum alloy rods (such as aluminum-magnesium alloy, aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy, etc.). The finished rods can also be electrolytic copper or scrap copper as raw materials.
